Brownes Urban MAX - Full Results Now Available!
Torrential rain leading up to the inaugural Brownes Urban Max couldn't dampen the spirits
of the 150 teams just showing what Western Australian's are truly made of. As the teams completed registration
there was a real wave of excitement and a buzz of anticipation as to what challenges were waiting for the
teams out on the course.
The race kicked off in a frenzy with teams sprinting across the Esplanade to collect their clue sheets from
the race officials. This is where different race strategies were immediately apparent as some teams proceeded solve all
the clues on the spot before traveling to their first checkpoints. Others decided to gain some ground by heading
off into the city and doing their clue solving on the run.
A number of teams made Jacob's ladder their first checkpoint discovering that they have to climb the 242 steps to complete
the checkpoints. Others opted for the Rockface Climbing centre where one team member had to complete a climb. Checkpoints were scattered around the city covering East Perth to Subiaco and even one at the old Mill in South Perth.
The rock climbing, quad cycle rogaine and the Beatty Park highboard proved to be the most popular activities with a number of teams commenting on these at the finish line.
In the end the spoils went to Wayne Eliot and Ricky Thackray from Team Whippet taking out the racing category in a time of
3:42:01. In the Social category line honours went to Mal King and Scott Rowley from Team Pulse 1.
