the course::

The start and finish of the race will be at the same location in the heart of the city. This location will be released two weeks prior to the event. We can't tell you too much, but we can say that it will not be a set course; checkpoints may be visited in any order.

Teams will not necessarily be staying in the city the whole race. Some of the suburbs will be visited during this event, with a mystery activity or two.

One of the unique features of this event is the use of public transport. This adds another element to adventure racing, and will play a big part in team strategy. Deciding when and when not to use the transport system could be a deciding factor in this race.

Format:

Each team will have to complete a variety of activities that will include problem solving, puzzles, using clues to find checkpoints and many more. Teams will be issued with a “clue sheet” at the start of the race. The sheet will include cryptic information, locations and details on how to reach the checkpoints. Some will be easy to find while others will require a bit of lateral thinking. Competitors will use maps to navigate their way around the city. Once a checkpoint has been reached you or the marshal present must "clip" your control card to show a successful completion. There are four different types of checkpoints:

Pursuit Checkpoint
To locate a pursuit checkpoint, you have to solve the clue provided on your clue sheet and make your way to that location. If you are in the correct place you will find the checkpoint and clipper to mark your control card with to verify a successful pursuit. If you are not in the correct location you will not find the checkpoint, you will feel nervous, a bit lost and you will start to panic!!

Activity Checkpoint
As the name suggest, you will have to complete the activity at the specified location. Some activities will be known before hand while others will only be revealed once you reach the location. Please take note activity checkpoints can have “opening hours” during which you have to visit this checkpoint. Opening hours will be clearly stated on your clue sheet. Failure to reach the checkpoint in the opening hours will result in a time penalty. Marshals will be available at some activity checkpoints to assist and verify a successful completion. Where marshals are not available you will have to collect an “item” as described on the clue sheet to show a successful completion.

Mystery Checkpoint
Unlike pursuit and activity checkpoints, a mystery checkpoint will not have any information provided on the clue sheet. To find this checkpoint you will have to collect a series of mystery clues from other checkpoints during the race. The mystery clues will give you the location of the mystery checkpoint.

Roaming Checkpoint
A roaming checkpoint is a task or activity that can be performed at any stage during the race. It can also be completed anywhere in the city or surrounds. Details of a roaming checkpoint will be given on the clue sheet. Successful completion of a roaming checkpoint will be verified at the finish.

All checkpoints are mandatory for the racing category and must be retrieved before returning to the finish. Competitors are allowed up to 6 hours to complete the race.
