What are the differences in categories?

Yes, teams racing in the "Social Category" can decide which checkpoints they collect. As long as they visit the minimum number of checkpoints stipulated for the "Social Category".

How hard will navigating around the city be?
Not hard at all, if you can read a street directory, you will not have any trouble navigating the course.

How do I find the checkpoints?
Teams will be given a map and list of the checkpoints at the beginning of the race. Most of these will be easy to find, however some will have to be found using clues.

Do we visit the checkpoints in a certain order?
No. Teams are given the freedom to choose their own route. This is part of the challenge, you may be a fast team but can you fight your way through the city in the most efficient way.

Do I have to visit all the checkpoints?
Only if you participate in the "Racing Category". You will have to find all the checkpoints listed on the clue sheet. Missed checkpoints will incur a time penalty.

If we are catching public transport throughout the race, how much money will we need?
A day-tripper ticket is available for $15 for adults, allowing travel on buses, trains and ferries all day. You may wish to bring an extra $15-$20 for food and access to some checkpoints. You will be allowed to catch ferries, buses and trains, no taxis or private cars are allowed.

What stops a team from cheating, such as catching a taxi?
There are a number of marshals positioned around the city near checkpoints (who will blend in with the tourists) Other teams may take it upon themselves to dob in a cheating team. Any team that is found to be cheating will be disqualified.

Can two teams work together?
Yes! But make sure you choose your team mates carefully as you don't want them to slow you down.

What are the race boundaries?
We operate within a 10km radius of the CBD.

How do I "mark" a successful checkpoint?
You will be issued with a "control card" at the start of the race. You will have to "clip" your control card at checkpoints where there are no marshals. If a marshal is present they will clip your control card to verify a successful checkpoint or completion of an activity.

What do I wear?
It is likely to be hot. So cover up and protect yourself from the sun with a hat, long shirt and trousers. If rain is forecast, bring a rain jacket. Most importantly, wear a comfortable pair of shoes or trainers.

How long will the event take?
The faster teams are expected to finish in three hours. The slowest teams should be finishing in five to six hours.

What do I need to bring with me?
We recommend all teams members carry food and at least two litres of water, or be prepared to buy water along the way. Every team must carry a mobile phone for safety (it also helps if you can phone a firend for assistance!). Teams may visit any shop along the way to re-stock their supplies.

Is there parking available?
Yes, there is parking available near the start/finish location. A limited amount is free in some surrounding streets but come prepared with six dollars for all day parking.

How fit or skilled do I need to be?
This event has been designed for any skill and fitness level. It can be done at any pace you feel comfortable. The use of public transport has been incorporated so that longer distances may be covered without having to be a super-fit athlete. However it is advised, as with any event, to do some preparation. Walking or running around the block a few times a week in the weeks leading up to the event would be sufficient preparation for this event. This will help to accustom your body to this type of activity, and reduce the chance of any injury during the race.
