Sydney Urban Max - Event Wrap Up and Results Now Available19th November 2011With a record number of entries, electronic timing and great weather predicted, the 2011 Sydney Urban Max promised to be one of the best Urban events to date. Registration opened at 7:30am and within an hour The Showring at the Entertainment Quarter had evolved into a sea of blue with everyone ready to race for the 9am release of the clue sheets. The 2011 course had a total of 20 unique checkpoints to choose from ranging from indoor climbing at St Peters, to kayaking at Rose Bay, searching the city streets for a yo-yo and navigating their way through the City Bike Depot and Australian Hotel. The big decision for teams after the issue of clue sheets was either to sit and complete the majority of the clue sheet or to head immediately in towards the CBD and work out the clues on route. Many teams chose the latter, with a steady stream of teams seen racing in to the city to get a head start on the big group of activities by first visiting the British Lolly Shop in Kings Cross for a not-so-sweet treat or Timezone to collect the minimum 20 tickets. 1 hour in to the race and we still had a few teams at the event centre working on their clue sheet and planning their route. Would this tactic pay off? Time would soon tell. As the day progressed and with the temperature rising steadily throughout the morning, the snorkeling and kayaking activities, located in the Eastern Suburbs, were kept busy with many teams taking the time to cool off before rejoining the race for checkpoints. In turn, this allowed the teams visiting the lawn bowls, indoor climbing and burlesque dancing checkpoints in the St Peters area to move through each activity with minimal delay. The fastest time posted for the 14 checkpoint racing category was by myWorkspace.com.au in a blistering 3:37, while the 10 checkpoint social category saw the all female team, The Monkeys, cross the finish line in an astounding 2:46:28. A big thank you must go out to those that supported CanTeen by buying a Fast Forward pass, selling bandannas or donating directly to the charity. Thank you to Nandos for supplying some great food for the competitors and also a thank you to our fantastic volunteers who helped make the day more enjoyable for every one taking part. Finally, congratulations to all who took on the heat and the course making the 2011 event a great success, we look forward to seeing you again in 2012.
