Tough Bloke Challenge NSW - Results, Photos and Wrap Up
Weather forecasts of 80% rain leading up to the third installment of the Tough Bloke Challenge NSW provided another chapter of "hardship" in a race
that doesn't require any additional "challenges". There were no surprises when the organising team received a few emails from concerned punters
enquiring about the temperatures and weather conditions down in Appin. Who needs bad weather when you are faced with 18 obstacles, freezing mud
and the infamous Hells Gate?
As race day dawned over Cataract Scout Park, the weather gods smiled on all the "would be" Tough Blokes and Chicks with a glorious sunny day providing
some much needed warmth at the start.
First up were the Elite competitors starting their assault on the course between 9am - 10am. In amongst the favourites were VIC TBC champions
Kristine Banks-Smith and Paul Baird, making the trip from VIC to show the NSW competitors how its done! Also lining up amongst the elite competitors
was Chief Brabon, founder of Original Bootcamp and one the fittest men in Australia. In the end it was Matt Murphy from Berkeley Vale taking line
honours in a blistering time of 30:33, just missing out on Stu Adams' course record of 30:12. In the female elite category there was no denying
Victorian Kristine Banks-Smith. She smashed the course in a time of 33:30, beating the previous course record by 3 minutes and 15 seconds and placing
6th overall.
In the age group categories, it was another Victorian female making it two in a row with Drysdale's Frances Perry taking victory in the over 50's
category in both the VIC and NSW Tough Bloke Challenge. Frances was one of 15 ladies in the over 50 category who showed that age is not a factor
when you are a "Tough Chick" at heart!
Another notable finisher was water skiing champion and Barnardos representative, Lauren Eagle. In her first attempt at conquering the Tough Chick
Challenge, Lauren won her category in a time of 40:20, beating 209 competitors in her age category. We have no doubt that Lauren will do well in
her recently launched professional boxing career.
Congratulations to all competitors for taking on the Tough Bloke Challenge.
