Maximum Adventure

the course

Overview

The course is made up of three disciplines covering a total distance of 56km. The disciplines will include a road cycle (32km), flat water kayak (12km) and a trail run (12km).

Ride: 32km

A 32km road ride from Akuna Bay to West Head and back. Starting from Akuna Bay Marina car park cyclists climb steadily up General San Martin Drive, before turning left onto West Head Rd. The course undulates along this road, still gaining height towards West Head. Just before competitors reach the loop at the end of West Head (176 meters) they will be turned around to make their way back to Akuna Bay. The route is exactly the same except it is faster as it is mainly down hill.

Northside Runners Trail Run: 12km

Follow Bobbin Head road for 100m before turning right up the track heading to the regional NPWS office. Cross Ku-ring-gai Chase Road before entering the left-hand arm of the Birrawana loop track to Bobbin Head. This brings you out near Bobbin Head information centre. Cross the road, go over the bridge [on the foot path] and head towards the Marina, getting onto the Warrimoo track. This track follows Kierans Creek before climbing up to the Spinx War Memorial and Bobbin Head Track (160 meters).

On the return trip runners will follow the same Birrawara track up to the NPWS regional office before crossing the road and heading back down into Apple Tree Bay where the race will finish at the end of the road on the left hand side.
