Event Wrap Up, Results Now Available and 2012 dates Announced

The stunning Jervis Bay region played host to the 2011 edition of the Kathmandu Max 12/24hr with a record line-up of 71 teams in the 12hr event. Registration and formalities were conclude on Friday evening with the 12hr event kicking off at Hyams beach at 6:30am on Saturday morning. It was a blistering start in the 12hr event with Max Adventure regulars Chad and Ryan Armstrong knocking over the first run in 23 minutes to transition first onto the kayaks. The kayak leg was a short affair back to the event centre at Huskisson, followed by the most popular leg of the race - the snorkelling leg. Teams were tasked to retrieve 8 numbers suspended below a series of buoys to eventually make up an 8 figure grid reference. The grid reference, for those who bothered to plot it would offer the first team a $200 Kathmandu voucher.

Back to the race proper it was the Armstrong brothers who continued their dominance into the Currambene State Forest where a foot rogaine and MTBO leg challenged the team's micro navigation skills. Some cross country navigation was required to collect the necessary five checkpoints in the foot rogaine while on the MTBO leg, teams could enjoy the fantastic single track this area has to offer. With only a short ride back to Myola and the final kayak leg back to the finish, it was the Armstrong brothers who lead from start to finish to take line honours in a time of 6:56:34. Second over the line was the Cripps Boys clocking a time of 7:29:36

In the 24hr event it was orienteering champs David Simpfendorfer and Mel Simpson who blitzed the course in a time of 11:01:33. They were followed by the first solo competitor Ben Cirulis in a cracking time of 11:44:46. Congratulations to all teams for taking part and completing the Kathmandu Max 12/24HR adventure race. The race will be back on the 15/16 Sept. 2012 - put the date in your diaries.

The results are now available on the results page.
