Kathmandu Adventure SeriesIf you are new to adventure racing or just fed up with the same old training routine, then this is a great event to start with.

The races are designed to be fast and furious with teams having to change between disciplines several times during the event. There is never any time to get bored or tired as you will be constantly challenged throughout the race! These non-stop events will take between two to six hours to complete.

These sprint adventure races are designed for teams of two. The course consists of 15-25km of mountain biking, 5-10km of trail running/trekking and 2-4km of kayaking. There are multiple legs of each discipline which add up to the distances quoted.

KathmanduA typical course might involve:

Leg 1: 2km trail run
Leg 2: 10km MTB
Leg 3: 1km kayak
Leg 4: 5km MTB
Leg 5: 5km trail run
Leg 6: 7km MTB
Leg 7: Finishing with a 2km kayak.

Just to keep you on your toes a natural obstacle (eg. mystery discipline, creek crossing etc.) or two maybe thrown in to add a little spice.

Kathmandu KayakersKayaks:

Toyboy Voyager II sit-on-top two person kayaks, paddles and personal flotation devices (PFD's) are included in your entry.

Navigation:

Each event will require some basic navigation (if you can read a street directory, you will be able to complete the course). All checkpoints can be reached by following tracks and paths, however occasionally it maybe faster to go cross-country.

GU LogoThe Course:

Your team must complete the course (together, no relays) in the minimum amount of time by visiting each of the check points in turn by foot, bike or water.

Hahn Super DryThe course is kept secret until the day of the race. At registration you will be issued with your maps and race instructions. Sometimes the maps will be premarked, other times you will need to copy the checkpoints off a master map. The race instructions will tell you in what order to collect the checkpoints and what equipment you can use.

Either way it's worth turning up early to give your team plenty of time for planning.
