| The course::
The BMC 100km Classic will be staged
in the Wombat state forest. Consisting of three loops, the course
will take riders on a journey across a variety of terrain including
forestry roads, quality single track and dirt roads.
Starting from Cammeray Waters, the course heads south into the Wombat State Forest with a fast and open 8km loop. With ample opportunity to overtake, this section will allow riders to settle in their positions before heading towards the narrower parts of the course.
After the settle in period, the course
will head into the first section of the famous Wombat MTB track
network, twisting and turning through the native forest the
wombat trails include natural and man made features, some of
the best mountain biking on offer in Victoria. After reaching
the Corner track riders will leave the single track for a while
and will venture west along Campaspe Road toward Firth Park.
On the return leg of this first loop riders will experience
some of this areas fast flowing trails, working with the terrain
these trails allow you to maintain your momentum, crossing several
small bridges you will eventually reach Burnt Mill Road and
head East.
After a short section of tight single trail and a couple of dry creek crossings off the Distillery track riders will again find themselves at Fingerpost Road and the first of the rest stations. After some water, food and chain lube riders will experience a long down hill section; following close to Fingerpost Road this section features some of the best single track and bridge sections on the track. Once reaching Montangna Road riders will face a steady climb up a ridge to the next long down hill section of single track to Trott Road. A gradual climb back up Dixon Road will return riders to the rest station for their second chance to refill.
Heading north from the rest stop riders will re-enter the Wombat Trails for a 6km section including a fast steep down hill into a beautiful natural valley before a set of switch backs bring you to the start of the third and final loop.
A complete change of terrain faces the riders as they enter the pines loop, specifically built MTB trails, multi use trails and fire roads wind their way through the pine plantations. Steep descents, bermed corners and natural jumps will require riders to maintain their focus as the legs start to tire.
After exiting the pines section all that is left is the final section of the Wombat Trails, this is the locals’ favourite section and is bound to leave every rider with a smile on their face as they cross the finish line at Cammeray Waters.
(Section of the course might change before race day as
