7.00pm - Finish packing car
7.00 - 7.30pm - Return to car 7 times with items forgotten while packing
7.30pm - Eat high carb meal
8.00pm - Ring team - mate and confirm travel arrangements
10.00pm - Go to bed
10.30pm - Youngest child wakes crying
11.00pm - Eldest child wakes crying
11.30pm - Hear children crying but checking reveals both asleep
11.58pm - Roll over and pull pillow over head convinced am - hearing things
2.00am - Youngest child wakes crying
5.00am - Eldest child wakes crying
6.00am - Alarm goes off -
6.15am - Start driving to Peats Ridge
7.15am - Arrive at registration
7.30am - Receive and ignore race instructions
8.00am - Finally actually wake up after coffee from coffee cart
8.15am - Use port a loo to discharge above mentioned coffee
8.45am - Attend race briefing and pay no attention at all, instead people watching the steely eyes of the 298 other competitors
9.00am - Race starts with mad dash through paddock
9.10am - Commence bike leg and lose first drink bottle in opening minute
9.15am - Miss first check point and have to return
9.30am - Arrive at creek crossing - follow others through waist deep water whilst carrying bike overhead.
9.35am - Continue following others and re cross same creek back to the correct track (not happy Jan!!) Note to self - in future read map!
9.40am - Arrive at transition area - deposit bike and note that have left half of food supplies in the car.
9.42am - Cross deep creek (this time correctly without the bike). Creek is approximately 10m across, 3m deep and 2 degrees cold!!
9.47am - Discover $7 watch is not waterproof *

10.00am - Discover that the first 50 teams (we were about 54th) start kayak leg, the rest go on run leg.
10.03am - Charge off at the front of the pack but running blind as didn't realize we were supposed to pick up new instructions at last point Note to self - in future listen to instructions!
10.15am - Arrive at a checkpoint to discover control card was left at transition area
10.25am - Arrive back at original checkpoint and collect control card
10.30 - 10.50am - Totally lost running through a swamp with nobody else anywhere near us. Note to self - in future read map!
10.55am - Rejoin a track and learn that we were using wrong instructions. Note to self - in future listen to instructions!
11.00am - Find correct track and start steepest climb ever known to man - hands and knees stuff!
11.20am - Reach top of hill to come across all other runners going in opposite (and apparently much easier) direction. Note to self - sometimes read map CAREFULLY
11.30am - Complete run leg and return to start kayak leg
11.45am - Circumnavigate island in unsuccessful attempt to find marker (subsequently advised marker had sunk)
12.00pm - Return to transition area and complete creek crossing while holding back pack over head and hoping that waterproof bag is adequately protecting I Phone
12.06pm - Slip over in mud on way to bike transition area to delight of surrounding competitors
12.10pm - Mount bikes and head north
About 12.45pm - Get off bikes and complete 4km "run" along muddy slippery track which involved lots of walking and repeating affirmations that we were having fun
About 1.15pm - Remount bikes for final leg
1.45pm - Cross finish line and wonder how come so many people are in front of us?
1.48pm - Devour burger, chocolate slice, and 2 Red Bulls
1.50pm - Feel a tiny bit better
1.51pm - Speak to one competitor who pulled out halfway through second last bike leg and took short cut home
1.53pm - Feel a bit better
1.54pm - Crack open luke warm beer left sitting in car for 4 hours -
1.55pm - Feel a lot better
2.00pm - Commence drive home
3.00pm - Arrive home
4.00pm - Finally remove most of the mud from the bikes
5.00pm - - Almost remove all of the mud from shoes and clothes
5.01pm - Enter shower
5.31pm - Exit shower
5.32pm - Consume beer and lots of chips
6.30pm - Have dinner
7.00pm - Fall asleep in front of TV and start dreaming of how we will improve our time in next years event
