Short, fast and fun, and suitable for anyone and everyone with a real sense of and adventure, the Kathmandu Adventure Series is designed to offer the perfect introduction to the exhilarating sport of adventure racing.
Designed for teams of two, the races are fun, fast and furious with teams having to change between three core disciplines several times during the event... Mountain biking, running / trekking, and kayaking. These non-stop events will take between two to six hours to complete so there is never any time to get bored or tired - you will constantly be challenged throughout the race, physically and mentally!
The courses consist of 15-25km of mountain biking, 5-10km of trail running/trekking and 2-4km of kayaking. There are multiple legs of each discipline, which add up to the distances quoted.
The 2012 Kathmandu Adventure Series comprises ten events in total. You can enter just one event, or if you are really game, you can enter all of them!
So, if you are new to the sport of adventure racing and are looking for an exciting challenge that lives up to your love of outdoors and action packed adventure, then the Kathmandu Adventure series is a great way to experience what this exhilarating, growing sport is all about.
The Kathmandu Adventure Series offers two exciting categories to ensure event suitability for all levels of adventure racers.
The 3 Hour category is aimed those teams that are less fit or don’t have the stamina required for the 6 Hour category. Courses are roughly half the length of the 6 Hour category, whilst still being fast paced, action packed and of course, a lot of fun.
The 6 Hour category is aimed at more experienced or fitter competitors. Courses are more challenging and of a longer distance than those of the 3 Hour category, pushing participants to the next level in adventure racing
For both 3 Hour and 6 Hour categories, each team must be made up of two participants. Teams must stay together (no relays). Team dynamics can consist of:
The Kathmandu Adventure series is also open to Under 18s (School Team Category)
All participants will need to supply their own Mountain Bike for each event (two per team).
Each team will also need to supply their own kayak, paddles and personal flotation devices (PFD's) for both the 3hr and 6hr categories (one per team). Any kayaks (with internal buoyancy) will be allowed as long as they can be paddled safely (open water sea kayaking) in the conditions on the day. Kayaks can be singles or doubles.

Each event will require some basic navigation skills, if you can read a street directory, you will be able to complete the course! All checkpoints can be reached by following tracks and paths, however occasionally it maybe faster to go cross-country.
