Date Announced!
We received many emails and calls from riders wanting to know the event date for the Dirt Works Victoria event. We can now reveal that the reason for the lengthy delay in announcing the date was due to the event shifting to the back end of the year. To explain:During talks with the Department of Sustainability and Environment, we were made aware of a number of high priority fuel reduction burns taking place in the Wombat State Forest over the next three years. The majority of these burns will significantly impact the Dirt Works Victoria route and are scheduled between the months of August through to May. Also, because the burns can only be initiated in specific weather conditions we had to work closely with the DSE to determine the optimum date where the event will have the least impact on fuel reductions burns.
We also wanted to provide riders with a high quality, well maintained course and by simply running the event after a significant burn we could not maintain the high standards you've come to expect from Maximum Adventure events.
As such, we can finally announce that the Dirt Works 100km Classic VIC will take place on the 7th November 2010. Entries for the event will open on the 3rd May 2010.
We would like to thanks the DSE for their continued support and guidance. After the black Saturday fires of February 7th and the relatively high populace and number of properties bordering the Wombat State Forest, we fully support the DSE's decision to focus their efforts on the reduction burns and as event organisers we will continue to be flexible and put the lives and property of Australians ahead of our recreational pursuits.
New Branding for 2010
We would like to announce a few minor changes to the branding of our Dirt Works and BMC 100km Classic events.
Most of you are familiar with the NSW based Dirt Works 100km Classic and the Victorian based BMC 100km Classic. Both of these events are sponsored by Dirt Works Australia, one of
the largest bicycle wholesale distributors in Australia.
Over the years we've seen five editions of the popular Dirt Works 100km Classic taking place in the township of St. Albans NSW. During this time the event, simply known as the
"Dirt Works 100" have seen thousands of riders take on a truly classic and historical 100km course.
In 2007 we launched a new marathon MTB event in Woodend Victoria and in two short years, it became one of the premier marathon events in Victoria. For 2010 it will be re-branded,
and both events will now fall under the "Dirt Works 100k Classic" banner and will be titled accordingly.
Dirt Works 100km Classic - NSW
St. Albans - 2 May 2010
Dirt Works 100km Classic - VIC
Woodend - 7th November 2010
Double Centurion Category - Not available in 2010
Unfortunately the Double Centurion category will not be available in 2010. With the Dirt Works VIC event moving to the 7th November 2010, the double centurion category
(offering riders an opportunity to ride 200km, in 2 states over 2 weeks) will not offer the same challenge to riders as before. For now we will put this special category on
hold for the foreseeable future.
We would still like to encourage riders to enter both events - keep an eye on the Dirt Works VIC website when entries open for some special offers to riders who enter both events.
